Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has reconstituted the state’s Waste Management Task Force, amid charge to members of the body to discharge their duties with absolute dedication to the state.

Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, who signed the letter authorizing the reconstitution of the Task Force, admonished members of the newly reconstituted body to hit the ground running, describing the assignment as a great call to service.

A statement by the Special Assistant (Print Media) to the Governor, Moses Alao, indicated that the reconstituted Oyo State Waste Management Task Force is to be chaired by the Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Intervention, Mrs. Aderonke Adedayo.

Other members of the new Task Force include the chairman of the defunct Waste Management Task Force, Mr. Francis Ojomo, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, who is now part of the Task Force on Illegal Land Acquisition; Mr. Ademola Aderinto, who is Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment; Miss Ololade Ajibola, Special Assistant on Special Duties and Mr. Ayoade Adekola, a board member of the Oyo State Housing Corporation of Oyo State.

The statement further indicated that the Task Force's assignment takes immediate effect.

Bauchi State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has today received his Sokoto counterpart, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the President of the 8th Senate, Abubakar Bukola Saraki and former llllllllll governor of Zamfara state, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau.

Speaking during the interaction session, Senator Saraki said the visit was to intimate the governor and other PDP presidential aspirants from the North about the ways forward to making life better for Nigerians in addition to ensuring a bright future.

According to Saraki the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is the only solid, valid and an authentic formidable platform that provide Nigerians with exemplary leadership by ensuring that the unity, peace and prosperity are moved forward and strengthened.

He added that all the presidential aspirants from the PDP are concerned about the situation of the country and the hardship caused by the APC administration hence the need to unite and bring curative measures.

The 2021 National Convention of the PDP that took place between October 30th and 31st, 2021 further proved the competences of Governor Samuel Ortom as a skilful political negotiator. Governor Ortom, aided by former President of the Senate, David Mark, Senator Gabriel Suswam alongside PDP Governors and party leaders across the country made the  political horse trading easier. Given the understanding between the trio, it was easier to convince their colleagues from other states to buy into Dr. Iyorchia Ayu's, nay, Benue project.

Because of what the convention entailed for the PDP in the 2021 polls, party leaders arrived Abuja early for further consultations and horse trading. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, arrived Abuja October 27th.

OCT 28th:

•Governor Ortom, accompanied by personal aides and other political leaders paid a condolence visit on Senator Philip Aduda at his family residence at Karu. Aduda is the senator representing the FCT.

His deceased father: Governor Ortom described the death of Rev. Aduda as painful, particularly at a time Nigeria needed men of proven integrity.

•Later that evening, PDP Governors and other leaders of the party met for several hours at the Akwa Ibom Governor's Lodge in Asokoro for last minute assurances that the convention will be hitch free and less acrimonious. At about 9.12pm, Chairman of the PDP Governor's Forum and Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, led his colleagues to address the hordes of reporters who laid siege on the meeting. Tambuwal hinted that the Convention Committee which was headed by the Governor of Adamawa State gave assurances that all was set for the convention.

•Soon after, Governors Ortom and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi went back into one of the meeting rooms for another round of discussions with other contestants in a bid to persuade them to drop their ambitions.

•At about 23:18pm, Sam Ben, one of the PDP leaders from the East was so thrilled with the way Governor Ortom handled various aspirants that he came out to meet us in the living lounge. After ascertaining that we are from Benue, Mr. Ben quipped: "Please go tell Ortom to drop politics and start wearing the cassock. He's too convincing."  We later followed Governors Ortom, Ugwuanyi and Okowa to the residence of Olagunsoye Oyinola located on Justice Sowemimo Street who was also contesting for the Deputy National Chairman, South. I didn't get to know the details, but it looked as if it was to persuade him to step down. Unfortunately, he declined. And the outcome was a complete whitewash.

•Governors Ortom, Ugwuanyi, Okowa, Darius Ishaku and Ikpeazu of Abia moved to Taraba lodge. They met for about two hours before dispatching to reconvene later that evening.

FRI OCT. 29:

Akwa Ibom Lodge: From 6pm, Akwa Ibom Lodge became a beehive of activities as leaders of the PDP converged on the venue to fine tune positions for the main convention event. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, his erstwhile VP candidate in 2019, Peter Obi, former Senate President David Mark, Iyorchia Ayu who emerged National Chairman, former Governors, Ministers, Ambassadors etc were all handy.

SAT. OCT 30th:

Delegates fill up the Eagle Square. By 4:10am, Dr. Ayu was declared the chairman-elect. By 10am that same morning, Governor Ortom hosted Benue delegates at the Benue State Lodge. The atmosphere was charged as party supporters sang and danced. Party leaders who spoke during the brief ceremony harped on unity among Benue people to attain greater heights. They likened the emergence of Dr. Ayu as the National Chairman of the PDP to the synergy and  commitment of all the leaders in the state. They reasoned that if we could speak with one voice like they did to ensure  Ayu gets the position, we'll be greater. It was instructive that Ortom, Mark, Suswam, Moro constantly shared intelligence reports from all their engagements. That way, they were able to convince other zones to support Dr. Ayu. Congratulations our National Chairman!

...Says Party Will Take Over In 2023

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has described his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) colleagues in the North and South as the best in terms of performance in Nigeria.
Governor Diri, who spoke in Adamawa on Saturday as chairman of the PDP National Electoral Committee for the conduct of the state congress of the party, also said the opposition party was poised to take over power at the centre in 2023.

The congress, which produced Tahir Shehu, a legal practitioner, with 2422 votes, was held at the Mahmud Ribadu Square in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Adamu Fintiri and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, were among the delegates that voted at the congress.

A statement by Governor Diri's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted him as urging his party members to remain steadfast and united to ensure PDP returns to power in the next general election.

His words: "Nigerians are tired of the APC (All Progressives Congress) and are waiting for the PDP to take over. I assure you that come 2023, PDP will take over the presidency of our country."
The Bayelsa governor described his Adamawa counterpart, Fintiri, as one of the "shining lights" in the party, saying he is making remarkable developmental imprints on his state.

He said it was a thing of pride that the first flyover in the whole of North East was constructed by the Fintiri administration, saying the PDP governors are noted for such developmental strides.

"I have been reading about the first flyover in the North East but yesterday I drove on it. We are pleased as a party that the governor of Adamawa State is performing and doing well. You know the PDP governors, from the North to the South, are the best performing in Nigeria.

"As an opposition party, we must be conscious of this at all times. So today's event proved to the people of Adamawa and indeed Nigerians that PDP is always united and will overcome its challenges at all times.

"I therefore urge us as faithful members of our party to be cohesive and steadfast just as I appreciate our leaders in Adamawa for the spirit of oneness and for the spirit of ensuring that our party becomes number one not only in Adamawa but also in Nigeria, so it can take over the reins of governance in 2023."

Diri appreciated Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for what he described as his sterling qualities and for providing leadership in the party and in Nigeria.

He said the congress was peaceful, friendly and convivial as it showed that the PDP was united in Adamawa.

He equally commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) whose state Resident Electoral Commissioner and his team were present to observe the exercise.
